Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada. Graduated from Saint Mary's University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in accounting. Articled with KPMG Peat Marwick Thorne Chartered, Accountants, Halifax, in the Audit & Tax groups (personal and corporate tax). 1991, became operations manager of Fidelity Financial Corporation Ltd., a privately owned business involved in residential mortgage financing. 1993, attained
Certified General Accountants designation. Worked as the controller/office manager for Price Waterhouse Coopers in Halifax. 1995 began work as an Independent Financial Planner.
In January 1999 obtained CFP license.
Hugh is currently enrolled in the second level of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program.
