The CFP is the internationally
recognized designation of financial planners. In Canada the Financial
Planners Standards Council administers the CFP's. They ensure
that a rigorous course curriculum and a final examination are
completed before any individual can call themselves a " CFP".
The following link to the CFP
main webpages has a number of sub links to the various other organizations
that CFP's in Canada are affiliated with.
Unfortunately, there are some
individuals in the financial planning industry that claim to be
"CFP's", when in fact they do not have the certification.
Since the general public, for the most part, are unaware of what
the qualifications are for a CFP; Or how they would check if their
planner were in fact a CFP. Most of these NON-DESIGNATED planners claiming to be CFP's get
away with it.
The attached WebPages shows
a listing of all the qualified CFP's in your area. Just go to
the subpage for the Financial Planners Standards Council, hit
the button called "Find a Financial Planner", key in
your postal code and all the qualified CFP's in your area will
be listed.
There are currently over 9,000
Certified Financial Planners in Canada. Make sure that the person
who's managing your money is one of them. |
